One day to go

I can't believe tomorrow is the first day of school.  I'd like to thank all of the readers who blogged on our Swasey Summer Site this year.  You all did an amazing job, thank you for sharing your book reviews with our school community.  Here are two final book reviews.  After today, we'll be back to blogging on SCS Connections.

The book I read was The Surprise Attack Of JabbaThe Puppet. At Mcquarrie middle school all the fun classes were replaced with Funtime, a program that is bad. The characters are Professor Funtime, Gismo, a singing calculator, and Wordsworth, a break dancing dictionary. There is a group of good kids that  start a origami rebel alliance to stop Funtime. You have to read the book to find out the rest. I would recommend  this book to Star Wars lovers.

The book I read was Civil War Ghosts. If you like civil war and ghosts read this book. For example, if you go to Beauregard Keyes house, which is a popular inn on 1113 Chartres St. in New Orleans, Louisiana, you might really get to see a ghostly reenactment at night of THE BATTLE OF SHILOH in the ballroom. The book says the walls of the room appear to fade and open out into a scene of the Shiloh battleground.  I won't  spoil the surprise  but just as a warning the deeper into the night the more terrifying it gets. I would recommend this book to a history lover or someone looking for somewhere to scare their family on vacation.

The book I read was Charlotte's Web. The story is about a pig called Wilbur. He was a runt. He was loved by a girl named Fern. Then Wilbur moved to Fern's Uncle Homer's farm. There he met a spider who saved his life. You have to read the book to find out the rest. I think this book is 4 1/2 stars. I would recommend this to animal lovers.

The Dancing Pancake
by Eileen Spinelli

Bindi has a lot of changes happening at the same time.  How would you deal with moving, opening a family restaurant, trying to help an unhappy friend and your parents divorce?

After her parents get divorced, Bindi gets mad when her mom tells her that her dad is not coming home.  She gets really mad at her parents for divorcing.  Two weeks later she finds out she has to move which makes her very sad.  She sat on her bed and cried.  Her aunt tries to make her feel better.  Slowly things start to get better for Bindi.

I thought this book was good because there was alot of action.  Anyone who likes to read about family happenings good and bad, should read this book.

Two mouse tales

Our fabulous fourth grade students have been at it again!  Cricket in Times Square is one of my all time favorite books - I'm so glad kids are still reading this oldie but goodie.  Geronimo Stilton is one of your all time favorite series, I'm so thrilled that someone wrote a review for it.

A Cricket in Times Square by George Selden
How did Chester, a tiny countryside cricket get from Connecticut to Times Square in New York City?
In a picnic basket of course!
How are Tucker a mouse, and Harry a cat best friends?
They live in the same drainpipe!
How did a mouse and a cat help make a cricket famous and save a family?
You’ll have to read the book to find out.

This book is about a country cricket and all the adventures and friends he makes on the way. This book is also about a poor family that is struggling and a tiny cricket who helps them be rich and famous in the subway station.

This book made me really care about the characters. There were some funny parts and some sad parts
I recommend this book to people who like friendship and fantasy books, and to boys and girls  of all ages.

Mr. Geronimoʼs day did not start off like he expected it would. Mr. Geronimo had to go in his nephew Benjaminʼs class for career day. He got into a lot of mischief! He got stuck in the playground tunnel, he exploded a classmateʼs volcano project, and accidentally let the class pet gecko out of his cage! This book hooked me in immediately! I recommend reading this book to find out how Mr. Geronimo gets out of this mess before the teacher returns!
